A Bitter Fungus
Bitterness spreads like a fungus. It starts off small. A grain of bitterness in the corner of your consciousness. You ignore it at first. But it is persistent.
It grates on your nerves until you give it an audience. You take hold of the grain of bitterness and water it with resentment. And it grows.
It grows quickly and relentlessly.
Until it completely clouds your thinking.
Your thoughts become focused on all the wrongs that have been done to you. You can do nothing but fester in the ugliness of the thoughts. Until they ooze out of you and onto other people.
And the bitterness grows.
It pervades the environment in which you live.
And it chokes out all of the hope.
It squelches the voice of God.
What can be done to stop the epidemic of bitterness?
Is there any way to find the hope amidst all of the lies?
All of the voices screaming: how dare you? poor me. life is not fair. everyone is against me. they deserve to pay. and on and on and on.
Stop listening to the screaming voices and focus on the voice of God. The voice saying "be still". The voice saying "judge not". The voice saying "love others". The voice saying "forgive as you have been forgiven".
It is there.
It is quiet but it is there.
And once you give that voice, the voice of God, an audience. It has more power than the fungus of bitterness. It wipes out the resentment and anger. And it restores hope.
And if we water the hope with love and joy we can do anything- move mountains, topple fortresses, triumph over enemies.
Do you have any bitterness in your life?
Are you letting it grow?
Stomp it out now. It is not too late.
