Disposable Lives
We live in such a crazy high paced culture that we have created here in America. We are consumers and expect everything to be done for us. We even expect this in church. We shop around until we find the most entertaining show that makes us feel good when we leave.
We have disposable cameras, disposable diapers, disposable towels. We are used to using what we want and then throwing things away.
Sometimes I feel disposable.
I feel as if people use me up and then throw me away when they are done with me. Out of sight and out of mind.
And it makes me wonder what the point of it all is.
Is this the life that God really wants us to live?
Did He tell us that we should be in it for ourselves and what we can get out of life and relationships?
Do you think that is what life is about?
How empty that is. How empty this culture is.
The other night I was staying in a hotel by myself and was flipping the channels and stumbled upon HBO at an unfortunate time of night. And while I was shocked at what was being portrayed about our society on this show - it was so obvious to me how empty it was. They were displaying sex as a carnal pleasure - but it was just an act. There was no love involved. It was meaningless. It was disposable.
Am I the only one who is tired of being used? Am I the only one who feels disposable? Am I the only one who thinks that life should be about love - real love? The kind of love that puts God and others before myself. The kind of love talked about in the Bible - that is unselfish and kind and compassionate.
Sometimes I feel like the only one.
